1. Who needs a Business Tax Receipt?

Anyone operating a business in the incorporated city limits of Apopka is required by City Code to have a Business Tax Receipt.

2. Can I pay my Business Tax Receipt online?

Yes, when you are ready to pay your bill, access the Apopka Business Tax Receipt Payment Portal and log in to your account using the Account ID and Pin from your invoice. 

Once you are logged in, simply click the button labeled "Make a Payment" and follow the payment instructions. This will only be active for those with an outstanding balance. 

Paying your bill online with a Visa, Mastercard, American Express, or Discover credit/debit card is convenient, fast, and secure. 

3. How do I know if I live in the incorporated city limits of Apopka?

Reach out to the Orange County Property Appraiser's Office to ensure that the planned business location is within the city limits of Apopka; contact the Appraiser's office at 407-836-5000 or visit their Orange County Property Appraiser's website.

4. Do I need any other Business Tax Receipts?

Yes, once you obtain the city of Apopka’s Business Tax Receipt, you must obtain one from Orange County as well. For more information, visit the Orange County Tax Collector's website.

5. Can my Business Tax be issued to a P.O. Box?

No, your Business Tax must be issued to a street address, however you may have a P.O. Box as your mailing address.

6. What if I have multiple locations?

Each location inside the incorporated city limits must have a separate Business Tax Receipt with the city.

7. When does my Business Tax Receipt expire?

License year runs from October 1st to September 30th. As a courtesy, renewal notices are sent out in August and are due by September 30th. The following penalties start on October 1st.

• October - 10% of the annual fee
• November - An additional 5% of the annual fee (15%)
• December - An additional 5% of the annual fee (20%)
• January - An additional 5% of the annual fee (25%)

8. When do I have to register a “Fictitious Name”?

If using a business name other than your full legal name, you must have your business registered with the Florida Division of Corporations (Florida Division of Corporations Website) prior to applying for the business tax receipt.

10. How much does a Business Tax Receipt cost?

Business Tax Receipt fees vary from one classification to another and many fees are based on variables such as the number of employees or the amount of retail inventory.

11. What do I need if my business is regulated by a Florida state agency?

If your business is regulated by any state agency, you must acquire the required state license or certificate of registration before a City Business Tax Receipt can be issued.
