The City of Apopka is excited to announce that we are in the process of becoming a Keep America Beautiful Affiliate!
Established in 1953, Keep America Beautiful is a leading national nonprofit that inspires and educates people to take action to improve and beautify their community. Keep America Beautiful provides the expertise, programs and resources to help end littering, improve recycling, and beautify America’s communities. Behavior change is the cornerstone focus.
By becoming a Keep America Beautiful affiliate, benefits to Apopka include but are not limited to: Improving outreach and participation in the City’s Adopt-A-Road Program; encouraging more local schools to participate in the City’s Plastic Bag Recycling Partnership; reducing litter; waste and graffiti; and gaining access to Community Impact Grants.
The following duties will be assigned to each Task Group:
Organizational Structure Task Group
Responsible for creating the organizational structure and administration in order to ensure long-term success for the affiliate.
Governance Documents
- Draft documents and submit to Team and/or government for approval
- Resolution/Executive Order/Ordinance
Identity
- Mission statement
- Logo design (Keep America Beautiful provides base logo)
Administration
- Determine board member responsibilities
- Member recruitment
- Executive Director job description
- Design one-year operational budget
Community Appearance Index – Litter Index Task Group *
Responsible for overseeing the completion of the Litter Index. The Litter Index is a visual assessment of the community.
Litter Index Tasks:
- Prepare local scoring map
- Enlist 3-6 volunteers to perform the Litter Index
- Conduct Index and compile data
Focus Area Survey Task Group *
Responsible for completing the Focus Area Survey, a fact-gathering document that examines current educational programs relating to litter prevention, beautification, community greening, waste reduction and recycling, existing ordinances, enforcement practices, and available resources and tools. City or county governmental representatives are especially suited for this Task Group Area.
Focus Area Survey Tasks:
- Identify relevant resources in government agencies, businesses and civic organizations
- Complete and compile survey
Please Note: The Community Appearance Index and Focus Area Survey Tasks groups will be asked to work together to complete observations about what was learned from the Community Appearance Index – Litter Index and Focus Area Survey and may provide recommendations.
