Industrial Pretreatment Program

The industrial pretreatment program for the City of Apopka permits, monitors, and inspects industrial facilities that send process wastewater to the City’s Publicly Owned Treatment Works (PTOW) through the Sanitary Collection System (SCS). The City’s program coordinator then reports to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

What Classifies as an Industrial Facility?

Industrial Facilities are generally types of manufactures or processing facilities that use the following:

  • Acids
  • Chemicals
  • Coatings
  • Oils
  • Solvents
  • Surfactants

Are industries as specified by the Federal Government: (This list is not all inclusive)

  • Metal Finishers
  • Fertilizer Manufacturers 
  • Sugar Processing Plants
  • Plastic Manufacturers
  • Landfills
  • Dental Facilities
  • Silver or Silver Rich Facilities

Or any manufacturing, assembling, or production process that may or do cause damage to the following:

  • Ground or surface waters
  • Public or employee health
  • The Sanitary Collection System (SCS)
  • The Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW)
  • The Storm Water System (SWS)
