The Apopka Fire and Police Department, along with Public Services want to help residents stay safe this hurricane season. Residents can also sign up Emergency Management Alerts on our website to receive important City emails and text alerts before, during, and after a storm. 

Residents can track the storm on the  National Weather Service Forecast page and the National Hurricane Center pageThe Atlantic Hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30.

Residents will be notified of any solid waste updates. If there is a change in service, residents can wait until the next week's pickup and put any overflow recycling in their trash can, call or schedule a courtesy pickup of their recycling cart on their next pickup date, or take their recycling to the county transfer station at 1326 Good Homes Road (407-836-6601).

Sandbags

Check our Alert Center for updates on times and locations for City of Apopka sandbags. 

The City issues alerts when our site at Edwards Field opens to distribute sandbags to our residents. There is a limit of 10 bags per household. Shovels are available to residents to fill the sandbags. 

Orange County Florida Government has provided important sandbag information (PDF).

Shelters

Orange County provides updates once shelters are open on their Orange County Shelters page. It a citizen requires a Special Needs/Medical Shelter during an emergency, please contact 311. 

Orange County provides general population shelters for Central Floridians who have been evacuated from their homes, live in low-lying areas, and for all others seeking shelter from a storm. Shelters are alcohol, drug and weapon free. Individuals should come prepared with supplies. ID cards are not required to enter shelters. For location and openings of shelters, please visit Orange County’s website

Generator exhaust contains carbon monoxide, which cannot be smelled or seen. They should always be used out and away from your garage, door, windows, and vents (at least 20 feet).
