Fire & Life Safety Division

The mission of the Fire and Life Safety Division is to prevent or limit the occurrence of fire incidents and other hazards to the public.

The division enforces all applicable life safety and fire protection requirements of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Florida Fire Prevention Code, the Florida Building Code and the City of Apopka Municipal Codes and Ordinances.

The Fire and Life Safety Division is lead by Division Chief of Life Safety Brian Bowman.



Inspectors

All 19 Life Safety Inspectors are certified by the State of Florida. The division is also responsible for more than 2324 business inspections a year.


Building Review

The division reviews all new commercial building plans and multi residential units prior to permits being issued. The inspectors work closely with the City Building Division to ensure all building plans comply with national, state and local codes.


Inspections

The staff will conduct inspections to ensure the project reflects the design criteria on the approved building plans. The fire inspectors test all fire protection, smoke evacuation and fire alarm systems to ensure they are functional and meet code compliance.


Prevention & Educational Programs

The division is also responsible for all the fire prevention and educational programs delivered to our city residents and visitors. Some of these programs include:

  • Fire Extinguisher Classes
  • Pool Safety Inspections
  • Smoke Detector Installs

Fire Prevention Month

The Division is also responsible for visiting over 3,000 school children each October during fire prevention month
